3/6 — Martyr Role Model

3/6 — Martyr Role Model

The 3/6 is a Right Angle Harmonic Profile. It’s oriented toward living out one’s personal destiny. The Third and Sixth lines are in the same position on the bigrams which creates a kind of harmony. It’s akin to two notes sitting an octave apart. The conscious personal Third Line is busy bumping into life, learning through trial and error, and testing and discovering what doesn’t work, especially in relationships. The unconscious Sixth Line is transpersonal, interested in living as a Role Model for others. If this is your Profile, you have your own path that, to a certain extent, you’ll also live out in public.

The Sixth Line brings an especially unique pattern because they live life in three phases.

The first third of life, prior to the Saturn Return, is one that’s described as living a Third Line life. Meaning, there will be chaos created by making discoveries through trial and error, and relationships will be forged and broken. While this phase looks very much like the Third Line’s, the Sixth Line lacks its natural resilience. Add to that, the fact that they’re each interested in different things. Both Lines do seek a form of truth. But, Third Lines are interested in the material world and what’s here now. They want to know what holds up and what doesn’t so they can determine what or who is false. Sixth Lines are seeking wisdom through experience and reflection, and are looking to the future for all. Hypocrisy is particularly painful for Sixth Lines who value authenticity and living in alignment.

After the Saturn Return around age 28-30, the Sixth Line has the capacity to withdraw from the chaos to heal and reflect. The presence of the conscious Third Line in this Profile adds a unique dimension to this tri-phase experience. The unconscious Sixth Line never truly withdraws during the second phase. The conscious Third Line is always seeking out the next experiment and discovery. They discover what’s not working in a relationship and so make and break bonds with others more easily than other Lines. This means the unconscious Sixth Line may never fully experience the respite of the second phase.

The third phase, which begins at age 50, brings the capacity and energy to re-engage with the world, only this time as a wise, objective Role Model.

Imagine the evolution of the Sixth Line as living as a seed, a sprout, and finally, blossoming into the fullness of the self.

The seed

The first 30 years is like a seed under the soil. It’s dark. It feels constricting. There’s no warmth and light, at least not the way some part of you knows you’re destined for. Here, Life cracks you open. It may feel like your very being is being destroyed. You’re struggling to hold onto an identity that doesn’t even necessarily feel like it’s who you are. It’s just all you’ve got right now. And it’s hard to let go because no one‘s telling you what’s next, what’s waiting for you. No one‘s telling you that it’s correct for your seed to be cracked open. And so the seed wants to stay a seed, even though it would mean living in darkness and under pressure.

And while you are still under the soil with your seed cracked open, you are being pulled inexorably toward the surface without even knowing why or what awaits you. You may feel that you cannot trust this force that is causing you to change shape and expression. Your seed can’t know that this process is worth it because all you’ve known is the darkness and the pressure of being cracked open. And now this strange way of being is not even letting you see the promise of the sunlight and warmth. For all you know, you’re just being drawn into more darkness, more pressure, more being broken open.

The sprout

The second phase is where you sprout and now finally you’re feeling the sunlight, feeling the warmth. To your delight, you’re visited by helpful beings. You experience a quality of being alive that the seed couldn’t possibly have imagined. There’s a sense of respite from that pressurized dark limiting constrained place. You’re no longer a seed being forced to die to itself in the hopes that something will take its place. So now you may be confused because you thought you were a seed and were going to be a seed your whole life. Instead, you’re this new thing that feels almost like the opposite of a seed. You’re living in conditions that are the opposite of where you spent all those formative years and decades.

You’re remembering your time as a seed and all the pain and limitation and darkness, potentially even moments of despair. Because on some level, your seed knew that you are a being meant for warmth, light, open air, the wide world that exists above the ground. So as a sprout, now you’re pulled back into those memories and the pain that they hold rather than being fully liberated into this new way of being. And this is natural if no one ever told you about yourself.

The bloom

And then, after the 20 or so years of sprouting and growing without the forces that were trying to crack you open and destroy your identity and make you feel like you were never going get out of the darkness, you emerge into the final phase of your life, where you will simply blossom. The flowers and fruits that emerge from you are the culmination of both of the earlier phases of your life. And in order for you and others to be nourished by them, you need to come heart to heart with the correctness of both your seed and sprout existence. Neither was wrong, neither was right in the sense that one was more appropriate than the other. And even now this third phase of life as this flowering, fruiting, blossoming being is no more correct than the other two phases. It’s simply here that you receive the nourishment of your entire journey and now you can model it for others.

What to watch for

Your conscious Third Line is built for the tumultuous trials and errors, particularly in relationships and bonds. Your unconscious Sixth Line may view this appetite and willingness with alarm and disdain. However, it has no choice other than to mirror that energy for the first three decades. This can cause the unconscious Sixth Line to lose faith in itself and spend the second phase doubting and judging itself. The energy of the second phase of the Sixth Line’s life will make the third and final phase richer and more fruitful when they can accept the appropriateness of that early era. Love themselves, warts and all. This capacity to see from this wise and objective perspective becomes their gift to model from age 50 and beyond.
