Come Home to Yourself

Coming home to yourself begins by seeing clearly how you’re actually meant to be and who you are supported in being. There are lots of systems trying to carry you to this exact destination, and maybe you’ve already tried a few.
I know I did. For over 30 years, I wandered through the desert of self-knowledge looking for a map that I could rely on to guide me to the promised land of self-love. And finally, after 58 years I was introduced to Human Design. Over time, as I studied, trained, and practiced, I understood that this was a map and a compass that could be counted on.
And now, I invite you to let it carry you home, too.
Losing Your Way
Life is full of people who, whether they know it or not, are expecting something of you. Maybe it’s as innocent as wanting to love and be loved by you. Or, maybe it’s someone who believes they have a right to control you.
Whatever the motivation, the effects of these expectations and attempts to influence you cause you to lose your way home to yourself. And when you do, you can experience loneliness, sadness, heartbreak, fear — all the unhappy feelings. In truth, there’s nothing inherently wrong with experiencing those feelings or even with getting lost every now and again.
What’s essential is that you possess an awareness of how to return to yourself, glean the wisdom of your experiences, and find the vitality to set out again.
Legs Of The Journey
Finding the way home to yourself is a spiral path. You don’t simply go from A to B and then it’s done. This journey is a winding one and is made richer by the fresh insights you glean from familiar territory seen from your newly evolved perspectives.
When you discover your Human Design and embody your True Self, you’ll notice a consistent pattern. These are the legs of your journey; points on the spiral that you’ll move through and return to again and again.
The Pattern
Recognition — Seeing Your Inner Clutter
The journey begins by realizing that the “you” you think you are, isn’t. It’s the result of living in a world that simply couldn’t see you. This experience caused you to accept physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual Inner Clutter. This is a way to describe everything that isn’t you — the beliefs, habits, feelings, and reactions you formed while trying to be acceptable, safe, or good enough in a world that couldn’t know your True Self.
Human Design provides a map of the original you, the who you’re here to be. It clarifies where and why you’re most likely to lose your way. And as you learn to recognize the pointy-cornered, sharp-edged, unsightly furniture of your Inner Clutter, you become aware of how it was imposed on you. It came from every single person in your life who wanted you to be who, how, or what would make them happy.
And the truth is, every piece of your collection served a purpose at one time. All were accumulated in service of your physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual safety and well-being. Everyone you’ve ever known has done the exact same thing. And everyone believes it’s who they are.
Awakening — Meeting Your Dutiful Self
The Dutiful Self is a version of you that was, and is, the most active in avoiding or limiting stress, fear, and pain. It’s the version that believes that it will, one day, make it possible for you to feel good, worthy, safe, or successful enough. This artificial self emerges from your Inner Clutter and is always attempting to prevent new or repeated unhappiness. It’s the version of you that gets the most attention from others, which can feel good or unpleasant.
And because your Dutiful Self is unaware of your True Self and your Inner Clutter, there’s confusion. False-self actions that receive praise become reinforced. Actions that attract criticism, even True Self ones, are pushed down and hidden away. This attention, both good and bad, adds more Inner Clutter and takes you further away from your True Self. Relying on your Human Design map lets you begin to untangle the painful knots created by decisions made from what isn’t your True Self.
Discernment — Practicing the Difference
Once you’ve begun to see your Inner Clutter more clearly and have awakened to the presence of this alternate Dutiful Self, practicing a new way of being emerges on its own. You won’t always notice your Inner Clutter or your Dutiful Self until after you’ve taken an action or made a decision and suddenly feel the constriction and tightening this brings. The practice is in allowing yourself to acknowledge, embrace, appreciate, and even love, the experience, yourself, and the wisdom it offers you.
During this leg of the journey, you’ll also experience moments of living in alignment with your True Self, following your Strategy and Authority, tuning into the energies of your Profile and your Defined and Open spaces. You’ll become aware of how expansive and at ease your body feels. You’ll even witness how these decisions don’t have to be what others want, and yet, can still create positive outcomes.
Liberation — Living as Yourself
At this point on the spiral path, your Inner Clutter doesn’t always run the show. You’re not being completely managed by your Dutiful Self anymore and you can perceive its attempts to influence you before you make a decision. Your perception of how you can simply live from what’s actually yours is deepening and expanding. You experience moments of the gently liberating power of living as your True Self. You’re experiencing the almost-forgotten sensation of coming home to yourself and can rest assured you can find your way there again.
Embracing your journey includes the full spiral — tripping over your Inner Clutter, bumping into your Dutiful Self, and coming heart to heart with the stress, fear, and pain that made your exile from your True Self not just necessary, but the smartest thing you could do at the time. With each encounter, self-witnessing, and evolution, you acquire competence and confidence. And, so long as you trust that your True Self’s abiding desire is for you to receive the richness of your life, this spiral journey holds meaning.
The Destination
The destination is the journey. And the journey is the destination. You’ve probably heard some version of that before. However without a genuinely useful map and guide, these truths end up being empty platitudes.
The map exists, and it’s accurate and specific to you. You’re not getting generic, one-size-fits-all information. Your Human Design chart makes sense only for you — no one else.
You can make your way on the spiral path of awareness, evolving, and coming home to yourself on your own. Start by learning what your Human Design chart is revealing about your True Self, your Dutiful Self, and your Inner Clutter.
Alternatively, you can walk this path with a guide — for as little or as much time as you choose.
I’m here.
