About half of all people have a defined Solar Plexus Center. For those who do, that one fact shapes everything about how they’re built to decide. The defined Solar Plexus becomes the Authority of the chart — the doorway through which deep wisdom is designed to reach them — and it holds that position absolutely. Nothing else in the chart overrides it.

Emotional Authority works through a wave: a rising and falling movement of feeling that, over time, surfaces the perspectives a person needs in order to know what is true. The motto often offered for this Authority is the truest sentence in Human Design for those who carry it: there is no truth in the now.

How It Speaks

What people often miss about this Authority is that it isn’t really about waiting. It’s about the perspectives that become available when you show up for each part of the wave.

The Solar Plexus rises, peaks, falls, troughs. From each point on that movement, the same situation looks slightly different — and each look offers something the others didn’t. What feels like an obvious yes at the peak can resolve into something else from the calm afterward. What feels like a flat no in the trough may reveal an entirely different texture once you’ve moved past the low.

The wave isn’t the obstacle. The wave is how the wisdom gets to you.

This is why decisions made at the high or low points are almost always incorrect — not because those emotional states are wrong, but because they’re only one perspective out of several you’d have access to if you let the full movement happen. The intensity of those moments doesn’t carry the truth on its own. The truth lives in the gathering — what becomes clear once you’ve sat with each of the wave’s points of view and registered how each one actually felt.

There is no fixed duration to this. The wave takes whatever time it takes to bring you the perspectives this particular decision requires. Sometimes a few hours. Sometimes weeks. The clarity that arrives is exactly what your deep wisdom knows is correct for this choice — not for any kind of permanent certainty, not for the decisions beyond this one. It’s like fog clearing over only the stretch of water you need to see.

Each point on the wave is where the richness is found. Clarity, when it comes, reveals only enough to move into the next wave.

How You Access It

You access this Authority through your defined Solar Plexus, on the lower right side of your BodyGraph. Because it’s the most potent doorway in the system, it takes the lead over every other potential Authority — even a defined Sacral, even a defined Splenic, even a defined Heart.

The shape your wave takes depends on which channel defines your Solar Plexus. The waves move quite differently from one another — different rhythms, different lengths, different textures — and the awareness it takes to receive the wisdom of each one is specific to its form. Learning the texture of yours is part of living well with this Authority. The wave forms are explored in posts of their own.

A defined Solar Plexus can appear in three of the four Types — Generators (including Manifesting Generators), Manifestors, and Projectors — and any of them can carry Emotional Authority. Reflectors, by definition, never do. The wave moves the same way regardless of Type, though the surrounding Type structure shapes how it’s experienced and lived day to day.

Living by It

The practical challenge of Emotional Authority is that the world expects fast answers, and the mind, conditioned by a culture that prizes decisive certainty, presses to give them. You’ll be asked to decide on the spot — at the dinner, in the meeting, in the moment someone wants a yes or no.

The single most important practice for living by this Authority is learning to say let me get back to you. Or I’ll need to consider this. Or give me a few days. This sounds small. It is everything.

But here’s the part that is easy to miss. Time alone doesn’t produce clarity for this design. What produces clarity is showing up for the wave during that time — actually feeling the variety of what comes through, registering each point of view as it arrives, letting the perspectives accumulate. Because of this, time spent ignoring the wave doesn’t deliver wisdom. Instead, it gives the conditioned mind room to manufacture evidence for whichever decision the not-self wanted in the first place.

A useful reframe: instead of I’ll think about this, try I’ll feel about this. The shift in word is small. The shift in what you actually do during the wait is the whole practice.

And then there is the part that genuinely surprises people once they begin trusting this Authority. The fear most Emotionally defined people carry is that opportunity will pass while they wait — that if they don’t say yes right now, the chance will disappear. What happens in practice tends to be the opposite. The more you give yourself time to move through the wave, the more only what is truly correct for you remains. What was going to disappoint, deplete, or harm you tends to fall away during the wait. What stays only gets clearer — and when it stays, the offer itself improves.

What Emerges

When Emotional Authority is honored, the decisions made from it carry depth, perspective, and a particular kind of unhurried clarity that is recognizable to others. People can feel the difference between a yes that was hurried into and a yes that arrived through the wave. The first is brittle; the second holds.

This is one of the great practical gifts of Human Design — the recognition that for half of all people, waiting is not failure or indecision. It is the doorway opening, exactly as it was made to.
